I love to eat my food and was never a fan of protein shakes. Many years ago after the gym, I would sometimes get a protein shake made for me and I always found them way too sweet and they would inevitably bloat me! So when I decided to follow the 30 days to Healthy Living Program, I was very surprised to find that choosing the right protein powder and making them the correct way actually filled me for hours and did not bloat me. So here are my tips for choosing the right powder and making the best smoothie!
1. Choose a pea protein powder.
Pea protein is plant based and is much easier to digest than soy and whey and it will not bloat you. For those of you who are allergic to dairy or have a lactose intolerance then pea protein is for you. Pea protein is best for a post recovery shake helping your muscles recover after that hard workout. Pea protein helps you feel fuller longer and studies have now shown that pea protein helps reduce cravings! So for me choosing pea protein is a win win. I use Arbonne protein as it is a name I can trust and it is certified Vegan and comes in yummy flavours such as Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate and Cinnamon scroll.
2. Add liquid
You can use either water or a non dairy milk such as oat milk or almond milk. While Oat milk is good for you it is much higher in fat than almond milk, so if weight loss is your goal, I would not choose oat milk to begin with.
3. Add fruit
I love using berries, frozen berries are great if you want a thicker creamier shake. Then you can add fresh spinach for the vitamins and you will not even taste it in your shake! Add the protein powder of course. Two scoops of the Arbonne powder packs in a whooping 20g of protein and for someone who does not eat meat or chicken and is allergic to soy, it is a great way for me to get my protein!
4. My favourite shake
Water, two scoops Arbonne Chooclate protein, 3 tablespoons of PB&Me powdered peanut butter. High in protein and very low in fat , frozen sliced strawberries, some ice cubes, blend and delicous!!!!!
For the best results invest in a good blender!
