Is your bathroom cabinet carcinogenic?
Years ago, I did not pay attention to what I put ON my body. I was becoming more aware of what I should be putting IN my body and did not really think twice about the skincare and shampoos I was using. But about five years ago when I began my business in the Health and Wellness industry, I realised that my entire household was full of carcinogens that I was totally unaware of!
With my husband and children in the house I needed to get rid of the chemicals and start educating myself! with the increase of cancer and infertility over the years I started learning that what we put on our skin is absorbed very quickly into our bloodstream. But what were we putting on our skin?
Parabens have been outed the past few years as being a carcinogen! Parabens are in many many skincare products as a preservative to prevent mould and bacteria. Parabens have many names including methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben. The problem is that Drs are finding parabens in breast cancer cells. Our bodies do not produce parabens and so they are coming from when we use products containing parabens as they enter our bloodstream. Johnson and Johnson completely re launched their baby line after being full of parabens and phthalates for years.Phthalates belong to a family of “industrial chemicals” and can damage the liver, kidneys and reproductive systems. Another toxin chemical to watch for is SLS.Our shampoos contains SLS or Sodium laureth sulfate .SLS is what is used to create the wonderful bubbles and lather in our shampoos and bubble bath and is also used in industrial cleaners! Looks great but is it really? SLS is another chemical that has been linked with cancer.
Did you know that in Europe there are around 1400 ingredients that are not allowed in skincare products and in North America there are about 11? So what do we do?? Who do we believe?? I believe that we should be our own health advocate, educate yourself and research yourself so you can make an informed decision. Using safer products should be:
- toxin free
- free of animal by products
- not tested on animals
- botanically based
- non GMO ingredients
- free of artificial fragrances, colours and dyes
