Is it better to carry extra pounds and be fit? A question that is on my mind lately seeing as I have been having a hard time losing the extra pounds that have crept on due to my beautiful hormones and my almost drawn to a halt metabolism. But I am fit.
I have stamina and energy that often outdoes my 22 year old kids! I have muscles that I can now see some definition! I box three days a week. I box recreationally and let me tell you it is a workout. Since my body has changed, the focus for me has been keeping my heart healthy and staying fit.
Dr Glenn Gaesser from Arizona State University has said that”health problems associated with obesity can be entirely resolved with simple changes in diet and exercise-even without significant, if any, weight loss”
By exercising people have less risk of depression and anxiety, they feel better and “blood pressure, blood fats and blood sugars improve” In fact studies have shown that “fit individual who are overweight or obese are not automatically at a higher risk for all cause mortality” In fact an analysis of 93,000 people found that fit people whether or not they were overweight or obese had similar survival rates! Now that is quite astonishing!
Encouraging people who have a difficult time to lose weight to become fit and to make changes in their lifestyle will make them feel happier, healthier and most importantly not feel like a failure if the scales do not changed. These positive feelings will then lead to a healthier lifestyle and food changes and then the weight will begin to come off. Let’s move the focus off the scale and onto our mindset , positive body image and knowing that making small changes constantly will end up with big results.
