2.What is your current occupation?
I’m proud to be an Entrepreneur. I am a gym owner and Mindset Wellness Coach!
3.What are the challenges of balancing work and parenting?
Working from home means there is seldom is a beginning and end to my day. I am typically “doing” something work related or in personal development most of my days. Because I love the work I am in, I have a hard time pulling myself away mentally. Over the last few years and in my own period of transformation I have realized the error in my ways when I don’t take a break and put work on pause. Being a mother makes it necessary to mentally stop what I am doing and be present with my boys. To be in the moment engaging with them is not only important, it’s absolutely necessary. Playing, laughing, and paying full attention to them is so important to their developing confidence and importance in how they develop as little boys and later as men. When I am not present they pick up on that and their energy shifts to behavior that will draw my attention back to them immediately. More and more I learn the value of children in our life to draw us back to the present moment, not take things so seriously, give more hugs, and to embrace the moment and have as much FUN as possible!
4.What is your life philosophy?
My place here has always been to help others. I am here to support, teach and to serve my family, loved ones, and those that I care about. Ever since I can remember, I have helped others see light in their situation or in themselves when they only see the darkness. I have loved and supported and wanted so badly for them understand that they are their own best advocate, and that they can feel good and live an amazing life, regardless of what situation they may be in at the moment. Life is precious and it goes so fast – why wouldn’t we want to make the most of this time!
As mothers we spend way too much time dealing with feelings of stress, overwhelm, anxiety, and guilt, that does not serve us and creates a life of living in fear. We need to just relax around our roles as momma’s and realize that our little spirited people are their own journey, and all they really want from us is love, connection, to feel heard and appreciated. We all want those things, even as an adult! I used to spend hours upon hours a day worrying about, well everything, and not enough time acknowledging myself or all the wonderful things going on in my life. Even becoming a mother was taken for granted the first time around, and it took several miscarriages and high risk pregnancy complications to have my second miracle baby 4.5 years later!
I am committed to intentionally serving as many people in my life as possible and to show my boys that their mother is committed to her passion and dreams, confident in who she’s becoming, brave and always moving forward, and willing to take risks to live the life she desires – my goal is to create a legacy for myself and for our family, and I am excited for today and for what the future holds!
(such a wonderful selfless philosophy!
5. What is a piece of advice you would give other mothers and what is one thing you wish you had known before having children?
When you are with your kids BE WITH YOUR KIDS. Put your phone away and look them in the eye and rub their backs while talking to them. Embrace them for the unique and beautiful little souls that they are, and have FUN! As adults we lose our ability to have fun as we become so concerned with all the things we need to do, not having enough time, not doing enough, being enough, etc. We totally lose sight of our inner our inner child. It’s layered under all the other things that think we “should be” doing every moment of every day. If we pay close attention to our children we would see that we can learn just as much from them than they will learn from us. They see things in the present moment, they are not concerned with fear, doubt and expectations. They do not care about what other people think. They are just happy to be doing what they are doing in that moment and they want their parents to play along!
(So true, I am still working on being present with my kids, really present, so much more rewarding)
6.What is your greatest achievement apart from your child/children so far?
Leaving the very small community that I grew up in and moving across the country to Colorado in 2007. It was so scary and so far out of my “norm” that I cried every day for a week before hitting the road. I never would have had that fresh new perspective or started my personal development journey which has completely transformed my life today. There’s still a lot of room to learn and for my own personal growth but it’s been an amazing journey! For me personally, it took getting out of my geographical comfort zone to get out of my own way, experience the world differently, and start looking at life with a new perspective.
I met my husband just 3 short months after moving to Colorado, and was also open to experiencing things differently with him than in any other relationship I have ever been in. I was in a fun loving place and open to change, which ultimately became the greatest gift I have ever given myself!
7.What have you done that you thought you could never do?
As a runner and having done several half marathons I have been asked over the years by friends if I would ever run a full marathon, to which my answer was always “NO, are you kidding me!? My feet would never be able to handle that many miles!”. Since moving to the mountains I have a newfound love for trail running….something not many runners have the ability to do. Living where I live there are trails and mountains are all around – it’s our favourite mountain town in Colorado and we were fortunate enough to relocate here 4.5 years ago. We are literally in the middle of the most incredible mountains that you can imagine for endless outdoor recreation!
In the summer of 2020 a friend asked me if I would like to do a girls running adventure through the Colorado Wilderness between our town and Aspen, Colorado. The run is about 30 miles and goes up and over 4 mountain passes at about 11,000 and 13,000 ft above sea level. Being a gym owner, I workout on a regular basis, but was not doing runs longer than about 5 miles. I said “yes” when she asked me, because I could not in my right mind pass up this incredible opportunity for adventure – I had to do this for myself!
As we got closer to the day of the planned run all the other girls had bailed accept for my friend and I. We left in the dark with headlamps, and got back to the car that evening in the dark with our headlamps back in place, but we did it! On September 18th, we successfully ran over 30 trail miles, and climbed a total of 8,600 vertical feet in ONE day! Everyone we met on the trail was hiking this loop in 2-4 days, as this is a very popular hike in our area. My friend and I felt like celebrities out there doing the ‘4 Loop Pass’ in one day and I am already looking forward to doing it again this summer!
(wow!!! Congratulations!!! That is amazing!!!)
8. What books do you /did you like reading to your children?
My 6 year old is a BIG lover of books! He loves them so so much and that’s one of our favorite things to do together. As a family we have grown to really love the author Chris Van Dusen. His children’s books are hilarious, and his characters carry over from many of his books to others of different themes. My son loves to pick out the characters that are worked into the background of another story or find special little graphics that he sneaks into his drawings. I have written a children’s book (unpublished as of this time) with Chris Van Dusen’s rhyming in mind and as inspiration for my own book! His books flow, are fun and his illustrations are awesome!
Love that your 6 year old is a book lover, books foster imagination in children and I just love that. Hope that you will add my book Three Times The Fun to your book collection!
